About: Considered a Qi tonic in TCM, this root has moderating and harmonizing energetic qualities. The root is demulcent (sweet and moist), anti-inflammatory, restoring, calming, relaxing and softening. It is considered a mild herb with minimal chronic toxicity, when used appropriately. The herb moistens dryness, relieves irritation, helps with certain respiratory challenges, protects the liver, and has steroid-like properties. Licorice root, in a formula, helps to bring the other herbs included into a harmonious blend when taken in the appropriate dosages.
Botanical name: Glycyrrhiza glabra
Part used: Dry root
Ingredients: Dry organic Licorice root, certified organic non-GMO cane alcohol and pure Adirondack water.
Percentage of alcohol used: 45-50%
Ratio plant to menstruum: 1:5
Safety considerations: Licorice not suggested for those who have been diagnosed with hypertension or edema, (due to extracellular fluid volume) hyperglycemia and pregnancy, kidney failure, congestive heart failure and low potassium levels.
