FAQ's

Many of our customers call and email with similar questions. We hope the answers to these frequently asked question can help ease your ordering process through Woodland Essence!

Sale/Promotion Disclaimer?

We love having sales and promotional offers for our customers and do them as often as we can. You can expect a sale or promotion seasonally, monthly, or for special occasions- all offers are sent through our newsletter which you can sign up for at the bottom of our website!

Once an order has been placed with the sale code entered at checkout, the order can no longer be edited or altered, so please double check shipping and billing addresses BEFORE checking out. Orders placed before or after the dates listed for sales/promotions cannot be refunded, cancelled or edited to include the discount. Sale codes are always a “one use per customer,” & cannot be reused. This includes any new subscriber codes. You CANNOT use the same code multiple times under the same name with a different email. YOUR ORDER WILL BE CANCELLED. Dates for the codes are always listed in the newsletter EST (make sure to double check the dates & times when codes go live.) All sale items are subject to change, not all items are discounted, there are exclusions with each sale! Merchandise is never discounted. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. When checking out, please make sure you are typing in the correct code in the promotional box (spelling, capitalization, symbols.) Shipping and delivery during Sale dates are subject to change. With an influx of orders during these promotions we need a little extra time to get your products to you. Please remember that we are a very small company, and we do our best. Implementing this policy is to ensure we can smoothly process orders & get your packages to you in a timely manner!

What is the difference between a tincture and a liquid extract?

A tincture and a liquid extract are the same thing! Each is a preparation in which the active principles of an herb are extracted into alcohol. This concentrates and preserves the medicinal qualities of the herb.

What kind of alcohol is used in your products?

We use Organic Cane alcohol for all our products that require alcohol.

Can you recommend treatment for my situation?

Due to FDA regulations, we are not allowed to offer information on herbal actions, diagnoses or treatment. We recommend contacting a local herb practitioner in your area. Many herbalists can be found on Stephen Buhner's website. Even if they are not in your area, please reach out to them. Many will do consults over the phone or by email.

Can you tell me what this herb is used for?

Again, due to FDA regulations we are not allowed to discuss usage of each herb. There are a lot of great resources for herbs. Online can sometimes have incorrect information, but look for books by Stephen Buhner, Rosemary Gladstar, David Winston, Richo Cech, Matthew Wood and William Rawls.

How do you take a liquid extract?

A liquid extract, or a tincture, can be taken straight out of the dropper; however, this may not be the most pleasing flavor. You may add your extract to a little water or juice and drink between or with meals.

Do I need to refrigerate my liquid extracts?

No, you do not need to keep tinctures refrigerated, however we do recommend keeping them in a cool, dark place to improve shelf life.

What is the shelf life of a liquid extract?

A liquid extract will last 5 years, opened or unopened.

How long does a 4 ounce bottle last?

If you are following a suggested dosage of 30 drops, 3 times a day, a 4 ounce bottle will last 3 weeks.

Can we visit the business or stop by to purchase products?

No, as much as we love our customers, Woodland Essence is not a store front or open to the public. Please place all orders via phone, email or online!

How many drops are in each size bottle?

A 1 ounce bottle holds 500 drops of product. A 2 ounce bottle holds 1000 drops of product. A 4 ounce bottle holds 2000 drops of product and an 8 ounce bottle will hold 4000 drops of product!

Are our packing materials biodegradable or recyclable?

YES! We have biodegradable packing peanuts that can be added to water to be dissolved or can be put in your compost at home. We also use biodegradable versa-pack and biodegradable "Plastic" bags to wrap the bottles, which can also be added to compost or used around plants in your garden. The only items we use that are not biodegradable is bubble wrap and air pillows, but both are recyclable.

What is a Flower Essence?

A Flower Essence is the process of soaking a flower/flowers in Adirondack spring water and later perserving it with Brandy alcohol, thus capturing the essence of the flower.  Flower essences are one way to enjoy and embrace the spirit of a plant. When using an essence, you open to the unique gifts and healing vibrations of that flower.

The flower essences address discord on any level: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual. They act as powerful energetic remedies that work on the inner landscape, addressing emotional imprints, clearing old patterns that no longer serve you~ and freeing you to experience more balance and harmony in your life. Flower essences act as gentle reminders to guide us in our unfolding, developing our own essence along the way! *A Flower Essence is NOT an Essential Oil.

How do we make Glycerites?

Glycerites are prepared from the original herb extract, which is made with the percentage of organic cane alcohol necessary for proper extraction of the vital components in each herb. We then use a process of evaporation to remove the alcohol and then replace this with certified organic vegetable glycerine to preserve the final product.

We recommend storing glycerites in the refrigerator or a cool, dark place to extend the shelf-life, which is approximately 2 years. These sweet and tasty glycerites can be enjoyed by children and adults who may be alcohol sensitive.

What's the difference between an Extract & a Glycerite?

The main difference between an Extract and Glycerite is the base. Extract is made with an alcohol base. The Glycerite is made with a Vegetable Glycerin. Both still contain the same quality product, giving you the efficacy you're seeking. These glycerites are prepared from the original herb extract, which is made with the percentage of organic alcohol necessary for proper extraction of the vital components in each herb. We then use a process of evaporation to remove the alcohol and then replace this with certified organic Vegetable Glycerin to preserve the final product.


We started making Glycerites for those with alcohol sensitivities & children! The Glycerites don't last as long as a normal Extract, so please refrigerate them after opening!

*The cost difference with the glycerites is due to the labor that goes into making them, which is much longer than a normal Extract

Are the Extracts & Glycerites Gluten Free?

Yes, all of the Extracts & Glycerites are gluten free. We use Organic Cane Alcohol for Extracts and Organic non-GMO vegetable Glycerin for the Glycerites.

Why does a product that I usually order look different or taste different?

Product color, taste, and even smell can change depending on what material was used in a batch and where that material was sourced from. Fresh and dry material also tastes different. We change from fresh to dry depending on season and how available an herb is to us. Color, taste, or smell can also change due to the part of the plant used. Sometimes Formulas or Extracts are updated to contain a diferent part of the plant that wasn't in it before. This can also determine how much or little sediment is in your bottle. Our Extracts and Formula ingredients are subject to change, when they do we update the labelling & website so we can have the most accurate information available.

With all of that being said, we strive to give you the best product we can offer!

I received the wrong product, what do I do?

If you've received an incorrect item(s) in your order, we ask that you send photos of the incorrect bottle(s) AND the receipt that arrived in your box to our email office@woodlandessence.com

Once we have documentation, we will send out the corrected item(s) for you. We will ask that you return the incorrect item(s) with a return label that we will provide in the box with your corrected item.

Can I take alcohol out of my Extract?

For those sensitive to alcohol, one can place 1 tsp of the Extract in a cup and cover with ½ cup very hot water. Let stand for 20-30 minutes. During this time, most of the alcohol will evaporate.

Are certain products limited?

Yes.

Products that are limited include:

Extra Empty Bottles - 4 per person max

Extra Caps/Droppers - 4 per person max

Do we test our herbs?

YES!

Should I Herx from taking an herb(s)?

Not exactly. It's common for many people to think a Herxiheimer reaction means that the herbs being taken are working.

This is only partially correct, a Herx reaction often means that bad AND good bacteria are being killed off. Killing both good and bad bacteria can be more harmful to a person's body and cause more issues to arise. We want our customers to feel better after taking our products, not worse! We believe that if anyone is suffering from a Herx reaction (Chills, fever, fatigue, joint pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, hypotension ect.) that it's safest to LOWER the dosage of herbals being consumed immediately.

Example: The recommended dosage for C.S.A Formula ranges from 1/4 tsp - 2 tsp. We recommend that if someone tries the higher end of the dosage and experiences a herx that they decrease to the lower end of the dosage and work their way up to the full dosage.

Service Member Discounts?

You may apply for a service member discount if you are in the Military or are a Veteran.

You will need to submit:

-Name and Address
-Your Military ID or other proof of being in the service such as discharge papers, photos in service uniform with name identification, ect.

******CANADA SHIPPING NOTICE******

SHIPPING TO CANADA IS CUURENTLY UNAVAILABLE DUE TO THE CURRENT CANADIAN UNION POSTAL STRIKE - We will update as soon as anything changes!

What type of shipping is used?

Within the US: USPS Priority Shipping, & UPS Ground Shipping. 

*Shipping times vary. Once a package ships from our facility, we no longer are responsible for the package or length of time it takes to arrive regardless of which method (USPS Priority, USPS Overnight, UPS Ground, UPS 2 day air) a customer pays for. There are no refunds on shipping.

International: We also use the US Post Office for international orders. All international orders must be shipped using Priority Shipping. We can no longer offer First Class International shipping, outside of Canada and Mexico, due to the lack of tracking once they leave the US border. Unfortunately, many packages have been lost entirely. 

Where do we ship internationally?

Currently we are only able to ship directly to Canada and Mexico due to current suspensions placed by the USPS System. 

If you're in a another country and would like to order our products, please look into creating a Stackry.com account. They have a page explaining how their system works! This has been the only efficient way we can get our products to our international customers!

How much will the shipping cost?

Shipping costs are based on weight. You can enter your order into our website and see the shipping costs before payment is required. This is the easiest way to generate potential shipping costs.

International customers, you will be charged additional customs fees. We do not know what these fees will be, so you will need to research this.

Will I get tracking information?

Once your package finishes up in our shipping department, you will receive an email with your tracking information. All packages will receive a tracking number separate from the sales receipt which will also be emailed. Please make sure you check the email you used to place your order.

How long will it take for my package to arrive?

Within the US: Even though the shipping labels through USPS Shipping state that packages will arrive within 3 days of shipment, that is not always the case. Domestic packages usually take 3-7 business days to arrive, depending on your location. We are not open on Friday, Saturday or Sunday and packages leave for the Post at 3:00 PM each afternoon. Generally, packages are sent within 24 hours, but if orders are placed on Thursday or Friday, they will not go out until the following week.

International: Orders can take 4-6 weeks, and sometimes more to arrive due to customs. See below for more information.

What happens if my package is lost or stolen in the United States?

When the tracking from your package indicates that it was delivered, we are no longer responsible. If you did not receive your package, please print out the tracking information and take it to your local Post Office and they will help you. Often the package is at your Post Office-or delivered to a neighbor-or the delivery slip blew away. If you live someplace where your packages are left in a public space, you might want to consider shipping to a more secure location.

What happens if my International package is lost or left in customs?

We cannot refund lost/slow packages or packages that are held in customs. It is your responsibility to know about your country’s custom’s rules. Each country has different rules for allowing herbs into the country. Clearing customs is the slowest part of the delivery. It can add many days to shipping time. We will not change any information on customs documents. If you choose to refuse your package, we can only refund you once the package arrives back at Woodland Essence - which can take several weeks or months.

Why isn’t there free shipping?

We are a small company and cannot absorb the cost of free shipping. We could raise our prices to cover the free shipping, but instead we have chosen to have our product prices reflect the cost of the item only, not the shipping too!

Cancellation Requests?

We cannot cancel any orders that have already been processed and shipped as they are no longer in our hands.

Cancellations can only be made if the order is placed Monday - Thursday 9:00AM - 2PM EST and is still within our facility. We are not here Friday - Sunday so orders placed on those days are sent out Monday morning. Our Office email is extremely busy on Mondays and we may miss a cancellation request if it was sent on the weekend which is why we cannot promise to cancel an order placed Friday - Sunday.

We also have a 15% restocking fee for any orders being cancelled.

We urge customers when placing orders to recheck and make sure the order information is correct before purchasing to avoid this issue!

Woodland Essence is not responsible for any individual's use our products. Each person's response to herbs may differ. Consult a qualified health care practitioner for guidance. Prices subject to change.

Return Policy

Due to the nature of our products, we cannot accept returns once the seals on bottles have been removed. We do not accept returns on custom formulas, closeout items, items that were on sale upon completing purchase, or items that have been held for long periods of time. 

We gladly accept returns caused by our error and will issue a refund or exchange in such cases. Notify us within 7 days of receipt of goods. We are unable to accept returns or exchanges otherwise. All Sales Are Final.

If your request for a return has been approved by our team you will be sent a return label either by email or mail. *Please do not return items without emailing our team first. All orders returned without our labels will not be refunded.


Refunds (if applicable)

Once your return has been processed a refund will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a certain amount of days. Please note that if products are returned voluntarily, we DO NOT refund shipping.

Late or missing refunds (if applicable)

If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again.

Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted.

Next, contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted.

Exchanges (if applicable)

We only replace items if they are broken or damaged. If you need to exchange a broken item for the same item, please email us at office@woodlandessence.com.

Section 1 - What Do We Do With Your Information?

When you purchase something from our store, as part of the buying and selling process, we collect the personal information you give us such as your name, address and email address.

When you browse our store, we also automatically receive your computer’s internet protocol (IP) address in order to provide us with information that helps us learn about your browser and operating system.

Section 2 - Consent

How do you get my consent?

When you provide us with personal information to complete a transaction, verify your credit card, place an order, arrange for a delivery or return a purchase, we imply that you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only.

If we ask for your personal information for a secondary reason, like marketing, we will either ask you directly for your expressed consent, or provide you with an opportunity to say no.

We may disclose your personal information if we are required by law to do so or if you violate our Terms of Service.

Section 4 - Shopify

Our store is hosted on Shopify Inc. They provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you.

Your data is stored through Shopify’s data storage, databases and the general Shopify application. They store your data on a secure server behind a firewall.

Payment

If you choose a direct payment through paypal to complete your purchase, then Shopify stores your credit card data. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction. After that is complete, your purchase transaction information is deleted.

All direct payment gateways adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.

PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of credit card information by our store and its service providers.

Section 5 - Third-party Services

In general, the third-party providers used by us will only collect, use and disclose your information to the extent necessary to allow them to perform the services they provide to us.

However, certain third-party service providers, such as payment gateways and other payment transaction processors, have their own privacy policies in respect to the information we are required to provide to them for your purchase-related transactions.

For these providers, we recommend that you read their privacy policies so you can understand the manner in which your personal information will be handled by these providers.

In particular, remember that certain providers may be located in or have facilities that are located a different jurisdiction than either you or us. So if you elect to proceed with a transaction that involves the services of a third-party service provider, then your information may become subject to the laws of the jurisdiction(s) in which that service provider or its facilities are located.

As an example, if you are located in Canada and your transaction is processed by a payment gateway located in the United States, then your personal information used in completing that transaction may be subject to disclosure under United States legislation, including the Patriot Act.

Once you leave our store’s website or are redirected to a third-party website or application, you are no longer governed by this Privacy Policy or our website’s Terms of Service..

To protect your personal information, we take reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered or destroyed.

If you provide us with your credit card information, the information is encrypted using secure socket layer technology (SSL) and stored with a AES-256 encryption. Although no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, we follow all PCI-DSS requirements and implement additional generally accepted industry standards.

Here is a list of cookies that we use. We’ve listed them here so you that you can choose if you want to opt-out of cookies or not.

_session_id, unique token, sessional, Allows Shopify to store information about your session (referrer, landing page, etc).

_shopify_visit, no data held, Persistent for 30 minutes from the last visit, Used by our website provider’s internal stats tracker to record the number of visits

_shopify_uniq, no data held, expires midnight (relative to the visitor) of the next day, Counts the number of visits to a store by a single customer.

cart, unique token, persistent for 2 weeks, Stores information about the contents of your cart.

_secure_session_id, unique token, sessional

storefront_digest, unique token, indefinite If the shop has a password, this is used to determine if the current visitor has access.

We reserve the right to limit the quantities of any products or services that we offer. All descriptions of products or product pricing are subject to change at anytime without notice, at the sole discretion of us. We reserve the right to discontinue any product at any time. We do not warrant that the quality of any products, services, information, or other material purchased or obtained by you will meet your expectations, or that any errors in the Service will be corrected.

In the event that we make a change to or cancel an order, we may attempt to notify you by contacting the e-mail and/or billing address/phone number provided at the time the order was made. We reserve the right to limit or prohibit orders that, in our sole judgment, appear to be placed by dealers, resellers or distributors.
