About: The bright yellow color of Berberine-rich Barberry roots, and their quite bitter taste certainly wakes the senses. This thorny, yellow flowered shrub was brought to the U.S. in the 1860’s as an ornamental. How many of us remember the hedges grown around many a house, with their bright red berries that came each autumn? Though the berries and stems can also be used as food, it is the root that we use to prepare this extract.
